Elgin Detective Charged With DUI After Traffic Stop

The off-duty detective slurred her words while speaking to a deputy and later refused to take field sobriety tests, according to reports.

ELGIN, IL — An Elgin police detective is facing DUI charges after her arrest Sunday night following a traffic stop, according to reports.

A Kane County deputy pulled over Jessica DeLeon around 11 p.m. Sunday for speeding in Campton Hills, the Daily Herald reports.

The off-duty detective showed the deputy her Elgin police badge and ID, and she slurred her words while speaking, the report states. She got out of her vehicle after being asked to do so five times, then struggled to walk, according to the report.

DeLeon, 43, refused to take field sobriety tests but later admitted she had “one drink,” the Daily Herald reports. She was uncooperative with Kane County jail staff after being charged with DUI and speeding, the report states.

Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley confirmed Wednesday in a Facebook post that an off-duty officer was arrested on DUI charges, but she did not confirm the officer’s name.

Lalley said the officer was “relieved of duty” and placed on paid administrative leave until an independent investigation is completed.
