Infant's Death Ruled A Homicide: Elgin Police
A 3-month-old Elgin boy died last week after suffering blunt-force trauma to his head, according to officials.
ELGIN, IL — A 3-month-old Elgin boy’s death last week was declared a homicide Saturday by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Malik Davis died Friday at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago after he was taken there for treatment several days earlier, Elgin police said. Malik died from blunt-force trauma to his head, which he suffered March 8, the medical examiner’s office said Saturday.

Elgin police were called around 9 a.m. March 8 to the 0-100 block of Longwood Place to help a child in “medical distress,” the department said in a Facebook post.
Malik was first taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin before being transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital, police said.

Elgin police have opened a homicide investigation into Malik’s death and are asking anyone with information to call the department’s Major Investigations Division at 847-289-2600.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating Malik’s death, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. DCFS workers have previously made contact with the family, the report states.
