Itasca Woman Dies After Head-On Crash in Plato Township

A 78-year-old woman died Wednesday after two-vehicle crash in unincorporated Plato Township.

PLATO TOWNSHIP, IL - A 78-year-old woman died Wednesday after two-vehicle crash in unincorporated Plato Township.

Suzanne Cannella, of the 6N300 block of Fairway Drive in Itasca, was pronounced dead at an area hospital after an 11:30 a.m. accident on Plank Road, just west of Route 47. Two other people were also hospitalized, one of whom had life-threatening injuries, Kane County Sheriff's Office deputies said.

Investigators say Cannella was heading westbound on Plank Road when the driver of an eastbound 2015 Nissan crossed into her lane and collided with her vehicle.

The driver of the Nissan, a 23-year-old Elgin woman, remained hospitalized Thursday with critical injuries, deputies said. Her passenger, a 23-year-old Elgin man, was also being treated. His injuries were reportedly not life-threatening.

Sheriff’s Office deputies and Kane County's Accident Reconstruction Team members were still investigating the incident on Thursday. They closed Plank Road for about four hours immediately following the crash.
