Kane Co. Forest Preserve Seeks Volunteers for Earth Day Tree Planting

Help celebrate Earth Day by planting trees in a Kane County forest preserve.

Volunteers are needed to plant trees at Kenyon Farm Forest Preserve in South Elgin on Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m., according to a news release from the Kane County Forest Preserve District news release.

"We’ll plant hundreds of oaks in a few hours, and can use as many helpers as possible. Holes will be pre-dug. Volunteers will simply plant the tree, tamp down dirt, add water and mulch. It’s easy," according to the news release. "There will also be other activities such as brush cutting and clearing."

Be sure to arrive promptly at 10 a.m. Planting will continue until all trees are in the ground or 1 p.m. — whichever comes first.

Each year, the Forest Preserve District of Kane County plants trees as part of an Earth Day celebration. Over the years, thousands of trees have been planted with the help of volunteers.

This volunteer opportunity is perfect for individuals or groups, families, scouts, youth groups or other organizations. You’re welcome to plant a single tree or stay and plant as many as you like. Bring work gloves if you prefer.
