Teen Severely Beats Homeless Man, Takes His Money: Police
Isaac C. Diaz, 19, of Elgin, was drinking and smoking marijuana with the man prior to the attack, authorities said.

ELGIN, IL — A 19-year-old Elgin man is accused of severely beating a homeless man after the two got into a disagreement during the early morning hours of Monday, police said. Isaac C. Diaz, of the 300 block of Western Avenue in Elgin, is also accused of stealing money that fell from the pocket of the homeless man, who is over the age of 60 years old, during the attack, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
Diaz is charged with robbery of a victim 60 years or older, a Class 1 felony; aggravated battery - great bodily harm/victim 60 or older, a Class 2 felony; and two counts of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.
The charges stem from the attack that occurred after Diaz and the homeless man had been drinking beer and smoking marijuana together in the area of East Chicago Street and South Grove Avenue in Elgin early on Monday, according to a news release from the state's attorney's office. The two got into a disagreement, and Diaz pushed the homeless man to the ground, punching him several times in the face.

After money fell out of the homeless man's pocket, Diaz picked it up and fled the scene, according to a news release. The man remains hospitalized with severe head and facial injuries.
Diaz's bail was set at $50,000 with 10 percent to apply. Diaz is next expected in court at 9 a.m. on July 29.
