Opie - Male, Terrier Mix, About 2 years old, HW Negative
He is a beautiful blue/brindle mix. He had lived on a chain (probably all his life). He has been around cats and children and did well with them. The shelter's impression of him is he's just a big baby. He is stunningly beautiful.

Miles - Male Hound mix, About 1-2 Years Old and 35-40lbs., HW Positive
This boy needs a special foster. He is nervous but as sweet as can be. They fed him with a metal bowl at the shelter and that scared him...he wouldn't go near it! They decided to feed him in a ceramic bowl...problem solved!
He is learning trust and has come a long way. He is apprehensive at first, but quickly warms up and lets you give him pets.
He has absolutely no signs of aggression but needs to learn that he is SAFE. He needs a patient and loving family to show him the good life.
Miles will need a 30-day course of antibiotics followed by 2 injections (24 hours apart) to treat Heartworm. Once he has these injections, he will need to stay calm with minimal exercise for the following 30 days. Heartworm treatment is crucial for his long term survival.
Rosalina – Female, About 8 years old, Heartworm Positive and her skin needs TLC.
Poor girl, change is a bit hard on her but a patient foster family will do wonders for her. When faced with change, she becomes shut down and quiet. At the shelter she prefers her kennel over anywhere else. She is not aggressive and has never snapped. She just gets very still and...into herself, like she wants to be invisible. Once she relaxes, she is a sweet and loving dog.
Since Rosalina is Heartworm positive, she would need a foster home for 2-3 months while she goes through treatment before she would be considered adoptable.
Jackson - Male, Terrier Mix, About 2 years old
Jackson is a big baby! He is calm, sweet, gentle, and social with all people and dogs.
Jackson is Heartworm Negative!
Finley - Female, 47lbs., HW Positive, About 2 years old (maybe younger).
She was found at large over a month ago. She is a young, beautiful, friendly and loving girl. She likes everyone 4 legs and 2!
While you foster, Safe Haven Dog Rescue provides a crate, food, leash, collar, and all medical care at our participating vet offices in Naperville, Wheaton, and Elmhurst. Heartworm treatment is done at Fox Valley Animal Welfare League in North Aurora. We also have a very supportive foster network to answer your questions, provide support, and guide you along the way.
Please email foster@safehavendogsil.org ASAP for more details or an application. We need to know Thursday 1/7 to give the shelter enough time to get the dogs a pre-travel health check.
If you are not in a position to foster, please SHARE this post. Everyone knows someone that may be willing to help. Thank you!
