Bond Set for 2 Men Who Allegedly Kidnapped, Robbed Glen Ellyn Man at Gunpoint

They allegedly forced the victim into his car before ordering him to drive to several ATMs for cash withdrawals, police reported.

Two men suspected in a kidnapping and armed robbery case that took place in Glen Ellyn several days ago appeared in bond court Friday, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced.

Bond for Alonzo Alexander, 20, of Wheaton and Joshua Phillips, 19, of Glen Ellyn was set by Judge Richard Russo. Russo ordered bond to be set at $500,000 for Alexander in accordance with an arrest warrant of the same amount. Phillips’ bond was doubled at $1 million.

Each of the men were charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of aggravated unlawful restraint after allegedly approaching a man from behind around 8:30 p.m. Nov. 26 and forcing him at gunpoint into his car.

They then allegedly stole the man’s iPhone and ordered him to drive to several ATMs to make cash withdrawals from his bank account.

The Glen Ellyn Police Department investigated the case for several days before making the arrests of Alexander and Phillips on Thursday.

“The type of brazen attack and abduction alleged in this case will not be tolerated in DuPage County,” Berlin said in a release. “I would like to thank the Glen Ellyn Police Department for their hard work and determination on this matter. It is because of their efforts we are able to build a strong case against the two men suspected of this outrageous criminal conduct.”

Both men are next expected in court Dec. 27. Alexander will see Judge Robert Miller, while Phillips’ case is assigned to Judge Daniel Guerin.
