Car Burglar Opts for Tanning Lotion, DVD, Winter Hat Steals: Elmhurst Police Blotter

An overdose, identity theft and several drug arrests were on the Elmhurst Police Department's latest blotter.

The following items were taken from the Elmhurst police blotter.

Drugs

  • Oleg Shuralev, 23, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Dec. 12 for having marijuana with him while driving. Police initially stopped Shuralev for only having one working headlight.
  • Christopher Mursuli, 22 was stopped around 3 a.m. Dec. 13 for driving without headlights and was subsequently arrested for having 3 grams of marijuana and a metal grinder. He was charged with driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving without headlights, speeding, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Runder Smith Jr., 25, was stopped for speeding Dec. 14 and arrested for having marijuana in the car. He was released on bond.

Burglaries from cars

  • An unknown suspect described as a black male wearing a black coat, ski mask and black pajama pants was witnessed standing next to the front passenger door of a car around 2:18 a.m. Dec. 12. When approached, the man said he had been “chilling with a friend at this house and was getting something out of the vehicle.” He then got into another car and left. Police checked the area for him with no results, but shoe prints showed he was at eight different houses. He only got into the one vehicle, though — and about $5 in change was missing.
  • A resident living on the 600 block of Fern said that four cars that had been parked in his driveway overnight on Dec. 12 were burglarized. Change and other items were missing.
  • Another resident on the 600 block of Linden said someone had entered his car overnight on the 12th and stole sunglasses, spare change and DVDs.
  • Someone also living on the 600 block of Fern said two of their cars had been entered overnight between the 11th and 12th, and that a bottle of tanning lotion and a winter hat were stolen, one from each car.

Overdose

  • A mother walked into a bathroom around 10 a.m. Dec. 12 to find her daughter with a handful of pills in her mouth. The girl was transported to Elmhurst Hospital for further treatment.

  • A woman living on the 800 block of S. Chatham Ave. said someone had tried to open a Victoria’s Secret credit card under her name in late November. She received a notice from a bank recently saying they weren’t able to approve her application.
  • A man living on the 400 block of S. Kenilworth said that sometime between Dec. 8 and Dec. 12, someone had used a driver’s license with his information on it to get a debit card for his existing bank account and then again to open a Best Buy credit card. There was no loss, and the account was closed.
