Child Luring, Identity Theft and MORE Clowns: Elmhurst Police Blotter

Take a look at what's been happening the past week in town.

Wondering what's been going on at the Elmhurst Police Department? We have highlights from the last week including another west suburban child luring incident, several identity thefts and, wait for it...more clowns.

A man told Elmhurst police that Oct. 15, while riding his bike around Kenilworth and Adelia, a clown came out of the trees and started chasing him. He was able to get away and said the clown went back into the trees once he did. The clown could have been a man or a woman, he said, wearing a clown mask or white makeup and a red-and-blue clown outfit.

Child luring
A man in his 60s attempted to get a girl into his red mini-van after school Oct. 14. Possible drug use in McDonald’s

After an hour, he left the bathroom swaying and unable to re-open the front door of McDonald’s to exit. Plastic bags of a white, powdery substance were found in the bathroom once he was gone.

Identity theft scares
A woman, unnamed by the police, said she got a warning call from the Bank of America about suspicious activity on her account; namely, someone was using her line of credit from an address that wasn’t hers. The person had made electronic transfers, opened a new line of credit and written a check under the woman’s name before she knew. Two additional identity thefts were reported in Elmhurst last week.

Counterfeit money
Someone used a fake $100 bill to buy products from the grocery store Mariano’s on Oct. 13.
