Concordia-Chicago Hosts Symposium To Honor Reformation's 500th Anniversary

RIVER FOREST, IL – In recognition of the Reformation’s 500th anniversary, Concordia University Chicago will host nationally known experts in the fields of history, theology, politics, the fine arts and education for informed discussions about the Reformation’s impact and ongoing legacy. The symposium will take place March 20 at 7 p.m. in a public forum in the University’s Chapel of Our Lord.

Scheduled presenters include Mickey Mattox of Marquette University, Mary Jane Haemig of Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Ron Rittgers of Valparaiso University, Vincent Bacote of Wheaton College and Larry Rast of Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN. Kurt Stadtwald, professor of history and political science at Concordia-Chicago, will serve as moderator.

“This is a remarkable collection of scholars from different backgrounds,” said Rev. Dr. Jeff Leininger, university pastor and chair of CUC’s Reformation 500 activities. “They are going to help us engage in the far-reaching significance of the Reformation’s 500th anniversary, commemorating the year that Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany.”
