Construction Begins On York Street In Downtown Elmhurst

The project will improve safety and traffic for the motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists that use York Street.

ELMHURST, IL — Construction will begin on Sept. 17 on York Street from First Street to just south of North Avenue, the city said. The project will improve safety and traffic for the motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists that use York Street.

According to the city, the project should take about two months to complete. Project work includes crosswalks being stamped with a brick pattern and colored red, which will improve safety by making crosswalks more visible.

For the most part, construction will take place 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Lane closes will also occur during construction, the city said. However, one lane going each way will always remain in place throughout the project. On-street parking will also be impacted temporarily and may be limited throughout the construction on one side of the street at a time.
