Counterfeit $100 Bills Continue to Appear in Elmhurst: Police

More than a dozen incidents of people using fake currency have been reported in November.

For weeks now, reports of counterfeit $100 bills circulating around Elmhurst have flooded the city’s police department, and it doesn’t look like those incidents are slowing down.

According to Elmhurst police reports, between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Nov. 15, two men used counterfeit bills to buy sandwiches from the Subway at 113 E. Schiller St. Another man tried to use a fake $100 bill to buy food at Bacci Pizza at 162 N. York St. around the same time, police said. While the cashier at Bacci’s Pizza recognized the fake money, the man left on foot before police got to the restaurant.

This incident isn’t isolated — earlier this month, on Nov. 7, a man attempted to use another counterfeit $100 bill at the same Bacci’s Pizza. He was described as a 5-foot-10 bald, heavyset black male who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Also on Nov. 7, fake $100 bills were used in three separate instances to purchase less than $20 worth of merchandise at Bentley’s Pet Stuff at 624 N. York St. The transactions took place one after the other just before 7 p.m. that day, and all three people who used the fake money were described as black men between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9.

Nine counterfeit bills were used to buy small items and a gift card from Walgreens just after 7 p.m. Nov. 7. The suspects were described as two black men wearing white tank tops and dark pants.
