D205 Appoints Two New Assistant Principals
Ryan Doherty and Tim Riordan will serve in assistant principal positions.

ELMHURST, IL — The Elmhurst District 205 Board of Education recently confirmed the promotion of Ryan Doherty to Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at York Community High School.
Prior to serving as English Department chair for two years at York, Doherty taught in the English Department and chaired the Theatre Department at Metea Valley High School, helping to open the new Indian Prairie District 204 school in August of 2009.
He also served as an English teacher and department liaison at Waubonsie Valley High School in District 204 from 2001 to 2009.

A former professional musical theatre actor, Doherty holds a BA in Vocal Performance/Musical Theatre from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana (1993); a BA in English Education from Northern Illinois University (2001); and a Masters in Educational Administration from Aurora University (2006). He is pursuing a Master of Science from the University of St. Francis to become a Reading Specialist. He is also a National Board Certified Teacher in English/Language Arts.

Earlier this summer, the Board of Education confirmed Tim Riordan as the Assistant Principal for Hawthorne and Lincoln Elementary Schools, a newly created position. Hawthorne and Lincoln are the two largest elementary schools in District 205.
A second career educator, Riordan comes to Elmhurst District 205 from East Maine School District 63, where he has taught at Melzer Elementary School since August of 2012. He also served as an administrative intern and the facilitator of Melzer’s Building Leadership Team last school year, leading teacher teams in the use of qualitative and quantitative data to monitor and support the academic, social and emotional growth of students.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University (2011) and a Masters in Education Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois,Champaign-Urbana (2016). He is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
“Tim brings a wealth of knowledge regarding best instructional practice,” noted Hawthorne Principal Nikki Tammaru. “He is not only well read, but also has experience putting those best practices in place in the classroom. As we begin our Eureka math pilot, he will be integral in assisting teachers, because he has taught the program for three years. Hawthorne is excited to welcome him to our team.”
Lincoln Principal Kathleen Tomei said, “Lincoln is also excited to welcome Tim to our team. His experience integrating high-leverage instructional strategies into teaching will prove invaluable as we work to provide our students with high-quality learning experiences. His experience in multiple grade levels, instructional coaching, and the Eureka math program couldn't be more timely. Tim has already proven to be a valuable addition to our learning community.”
For three weeks this summer, Riordan served as the co-coordinator of summer school at Conrad Fischer Elementary School, along with Principal Jane Bailey.
