Driver Approaches Boy, Tries To Lure Him Into Van: Elmhurst Police

The boy thankfully ran back inside his house and called the police.

A suspicious van that approached a child in an Elmhurst neighborhood Monday showed similarities to previous child luring incidents in the western suburbs.

The incident took place around 2:15 p.m. in the 500 block of West Lorraine Avenue, Elmhurst police said in a release. A red work van with a sticker on the side reportedly drove up to a boy who was outside his house and asked him if he’d seen a brown down.

The boy, who is under 18 but whose age wasn’t specified by police, told the man he hadn’t seen a dog. The man then asked if the boy would “be willing to get in the van and check the area with him.”

The victim said he ran back into his home and called his mom, who told him to call the police. Cops who showed up to the scene checked the area, but didn’t find the van or suspect.

The man in the red van was described by the boy as a white male in his 50s with long brown hair.
