Elmhurst Coronavirus Rate Stays Low: County

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst continues to experience its lowest percentage increases in coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DuPage County Health Department numbers.

As of Sunday, the city had 4,386 cases, an increase of 20 cases from the week before, or a 0.5 percent hike. The previous week also saw an increase of 0.5 percent.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst increased by two in the last week, to 69. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.6 percent.

Elmhurst's rate of increase of 0.5 percent was lower than DuPage County's hike of 0.9 percent in the last week. Elmhurst makes up 5.2 percent of the county's population and 5.2 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 93.8 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 81 in Darien, 87.3 in La Grange Park, 90.1 in DuPage County, 92.6 in Hinsdale, 97.5 in Western Springs, 99.2 in Clarendon Hills, 101.5 in suburban Cook County, 103.9 in Burr Ridge and 119.8 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,381,665, up 0.4 percent from a week earlier. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 22,794.

Nationally, 33.1 million people have caught the virus, up 0.5 percent from the week before. A total of 590,959 people have died from the virus in the United States.
