ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst Family Restaurant is closed and its property at 441 W. Lake St. went on the market — a possible casualty of the shutdown of in-house dining. Oak Brook-based Adelphia Properties confirmed Wednesday it listed the property earlier this week.

The listing says the 5,000-square-foot building was built in 1989. The eatery started 36 years ago, according to the Better Business Bureau website.

The last post on the restaurant's Facebook page was March 16, just as the state's pandemic shutdown was beginning. The post said the restaurant would offer carryout, curbside pickup and delivery through third-party vendors.

The last update to its website was a week later, in which the restaurant announced it would be closed until April 7 because of the pandemic.

The restaurant's owner couldn't be reached for immediate comment Tuesday.

On the Elmhurst, IL News and Comment Facebook page, residents reflected on the restaurant's closure.

"It's been around as long as I can remember," one woman said. "My grandma ate there every Thursday at 4 with my uncle. It catered to the senior crowd, but they had good salads."

A man added, "Such a great place and it's sad they closed. I'll always have the memories with my mom, though."
