Elmhurst Restaurants 'Extremely Vulnerable': Mayor

Mayor is expected to issue an executive order that suspends the collection of restaurant-related fees.

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst Mayor Steve Morley is asking residents to do all they can to help local restaurants and bars as the governor has ordered the closure of indoor dining in Region 8, including DuPage County, as of Friday.

“Between increased restrictions and the changing of the seasons, our bars and restaurants are in an extremely vulnerable position right now," Morley said in a news release this week. "I urge the people of Elmhurst to join with me in showing a concerted effort of support in the coming weeks to all local businesses, including our food and beverage businesses."

The release announced Morley would issue an executive order that would suspend the collection of Elmhurst liquor license fee payments and business registration fees until the City Council can review them. This includes food handler and amusement device renewal fees.

"I will be asking the City Council to once again examine any and all opportunities to assist our local businesses; in particular our bars and restaurants who are disproportionately affected by these latest restrictions," Morley said.

Outdoor dining will continue to be allowed under the governor's executive order. The latest measures are slated to last at least two weeks, the city said.
