Elmhurst Sees Drop In Virus Rate For 3rd Week In Row: County

ELMHURST, IL — For the third week in a row, Elmhurst has seen a drop in its percentage hike in coronavirus cases, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city had 4,274 cases, an increase of 47 cases from the week before, or a 1.1 percent hike. The previous week, it was 1.3 percent.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 66. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.5 percent.

Elmhurst's rate of increase of 1.1 percent was lower than DuPage County's hike of 1.3 percent in the last week. Elmhurst makes up 5.2 percent of the county's population and 5.2 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 91.4 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 79 in Darien, 81.5 in La Grange Park, 88.5 in DuPage County, 89.1 in Western Springs, 90.3 in Hinsdale, 96.5 in Clarendon Hills, 97.7 in suburban Cook County, 101.6 in Burr Ridge and 113.3 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,337,868, up 1.2 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 21,992 state residents.

Nationally, 32.1 million people have caught the virus, up 1.1 percent from the week before. A total of 573,012 people have died from the virus in the United States.
