Elmhurst's IC Volleyball Gets Academic Honor

ELMHURST, IL — IC Catholic Prep's volleyball team has earned the Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season, according to a school news release. This honor is given by the U.S. Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The award, started in the 1992-93 school year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

“Academic excellence has always been considered a key measurement of success for our program each year,” Nancy Kerrigan, the team's head coach, said in a statement. “This award is a testament to these incredible young women who consistently commit to getting it done in the classroom and on the court."

This marks the 27th time in the 28-year history of the award program that the local volleyball program has earned the prestigious honor.

"At a time in history when most of our day-to-day activities have come to a halt, including sports, it is refreshing to highlight our student-athletes for their academic accomplishments," Michael Fahey, the school's athletic director, said in a statement. "The young women of our volleyball team not only excel on the court, they lead in the classroom, and I’m honored that two of our teams, boys baseball and girls volleyball, have been recognized by national organizations for their commitment to academic excellence."
