Elmurst Cops Catch Teen Suspected In At Least 1 Car Burglary

Demetrius Orr was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Elmhurst police reported early Wednesday that they’d caught a teenager who reportedly committed at least one car burglary this week.

Demetrius Orr, 18, was found by cops after the Elmhurst Police Department got a 911 call early Thursday morning about a suspicious person pulling on car door handles around Berkley and Elm Park Avenues, the department announced in a release. Police responded to the scene around 2 a.m. and found one car in the 100 block of South Berkley Avenue that looked like it had been broken into.

Police searched the area with a canine unit and were able to find Orr, but he fled on foot. After about an hour, he was spotted again walking along the Canadian National Railroad tracks near West Avenue and was arrested.

Elmhurst police said they found several items that were likely the result of burglaries when they searched Orr, but none of the objects have been associated with any reported car burglaries.

The police department said in the release that anyone who’s experienced a break-in and not reported the incident is encouraged to do so immediately, and reminded city residents to keep valuables out of sight in cars and to lock their vehicles when they’re not in or around them.
