Fast Food Chain Coming To Elmhurst: City

The restaurant plans to replace one that closed more than a year ago.

ELMHURST, IL — A Dairy Queen is set to open in March in Elmhurst, the city government says.

According to the company's website, there are 6,800 Dairy Queen locations in the United States, Canada and more than 25 other countries. But Elmhurst has none.

The local Dairy Queen is set for the old Meatheads space in the City Centre at 143 N. York St., according to the city. Meatheads closed in December 2019, with the franchise owners saying they were leaving the restaurant business.

An email from the franchise owner said the local Dairy Queen would offer ice cream products, including cakes and novelty blizzards. It is also set to offer hot dogs, pretzels, oven-baked sandwiches, oven-baked chicken bites and Orange Julius products.

The Dairy Queen chain is based in Minneapolis.
