If the developers of the six-story multiuse building on Hahn Street between York Street and Addison Avenue need ideas to fill the 12,000 feet of retail space, they can check out the
Elmhurst Patch Facebook page.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 19 people had already offered suggestions including a book store, a bakery, a coffee shop, either Einstein’s or Corner Bakery, a hobby shop, a nail salon, frozen yogurt with more than half the people asking for a Trader Joe’s.

“I see so many Elmhurst cars in the parking lot when we go to stock up in our TJ staples.” Shannon Kelly Watts wrote on Facebook. “If it were in town we would go much more often than once every few months. It would also draw people in from surrounding areas that might also check out other Elmhurst stores.”

Another reader, Jane Ignoffo, was one of the people voting for Trader Joe’s but she wants to know more about the 192 luxury apartments which will be on the upper floors.

“Where are floor plans available for the luxury apartments,” Ignoffo wrote. “I live nearby but would love to live in a building with amenities like WIFI, workout facility, package receiving, lobby attendant, and other amenities a luxury building should have.”

The project got started late last month as developers tore down the existing structures and fenced the Hahn Street property bounded by York Street and Addison Avenue, according to a story in Suburban Life publications.
