Local Drug Suspect, Disturbance: Elmhurst Cops
Elmhurst resident is caught with drugs in a traffic stop, report says.
ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving drug possession, a domestic disturbance, retail theft, a tire slashing, a bad check, suspicious visitors and curfew violations. Here is the information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Drug possession
- Mario A. Carlini, 20, of Elmhurst, was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. He turned himself into the police. In a traffic stop on Nov. 20, he was found to be in possession of psilocybin mushrooms and more than 30 grams of marijuana. He was charged at the time with DUI (drugs). The drug charge was pending lab results.
Domestic disturbance

- A domestic disturbance happened shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of Hillcrest Avenue. The victim said a youth threw an ironing board at him. The suspect and a witness said the suspect pushed the ironing board over.
Retail theft
- A clerk at 7-Eleven, 155 E. First St., said that while he was busy with a customer about 8 a.m. Sunday, a man went into the back storage room and stole two cartons of Newport cigarettes. The man was described as white, 25 years old, having brown curly hair, carrying a gray sweatshirt, and wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans (tucked into his boots or rubber-banded at the ankle) and tan work boots.
Teens knock and run away

- A resident in the 900 block of South Hillside Avenue told police at 10:30 p.m. Monday that he heard a knock at his door and saw two teens run away. An officer took possession of a bicycle that was left behind by one of the teens. The bicycle was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
Tire slashed
- The front driver's side tire of a car was slashed between 3 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of Hillcrest Avenue.
Converters removed
- A catalytic converter was removed from a car between 6 p.m. Sunday and noon Monday at a house on Elm Creek Drive. Another one was stolen between Saturday and Tuesday in a parking lot in the 400 block of West Butterfield Road. Converters contain metals that have become a lot more valuable in the last year.
Bad check
- A suspect provided a personal check for a down payment on a car at Napleton Kia, 745 W. Lake St. The check has been returned twice for insufficient funds. The dealership has made several failed attempts to repossess the vehicle and plans to send a certified letter demanding payment. The officer left a message for the suspect. The suspect got the car March 26. The issue was reported to police Wednesday.
Suspicious visitors
- A resident in the 800 block of South Bryan Street informed police that two or three people were walking up his driveway about 2 a.m. Monday. They left in a dark sedan. Nothing was reported stolen.
Curfew violations
- Police saw two youths at Butterfield Park, 385 E. Butterfield Road, about 11 p.m. Wednesday. A girl gave a false date of birth and other false information, which delayed police from finding a parent for an hour. She was cited for a curfew violation and obstructing police. She was released to her mother. The other youth also was cited for a curfew violation and released to his aunt at the request of his mother.
Abandoned motorcycle
- An abandoned motorcycle was found Wednesday at Butterfield Park, 385 E. Butterfield Road. The dirt bike is spray-painted red and black. It has extensive damage and is without a license plate.
Gun turned in
- A person from the 300 block of West Crescent Avenue turned in a gun Tuesday. It belonged to his deceased father. The gun was placed into evidence for destruction.
Bicycle issues
- A BMX bicycle was found about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the wooded area of Berens Park, 493 Oaklawn Ave. The bicycle was placed into evidence for safekeeping. Another bicycle, a Vertical XL, was found abandoned at Wilder Park, 175 Prospect Ave. The officer contacted the owner, who said he would get it from the police station.
- A turquoise 21-speed Raleigh girl's mountain bicycle was stolen from an attached garage between May 25 and June 7 in the 200 block of Poplar Avenue. The victim did not know the bike's serial number.
DUI
- Karla Flores-Zamorano, 25, of Hanover Park, was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at North End and Van Auken on charges of DUI, possession of open alcohol and driving with unsafe equipment. She was released on bond.
Driving violations
- Marqual D. Jefferson, 20, of Willowbrook, was cited about 1 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles and Villa on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration and unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver. He was released on bond.
- Breanna Westbrooks, 26, of Bellwood, was cited about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles and York on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage. She was released on bond.
