1 Dead In Crash Involving Several Cars, Semis On I-290

One fatality has been reported in the crash, which occurred around 2 p.m. Thursday.

ELMHURST, IL — One person has been killed in a crash involving several semi-trucks and vehicles that has closed all lanes on the inbound I-290 expressway. The crash took place shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday near St. Charles Road.

Illinois State Police said three semi-trucks and four cars were involved in the crash. One fatality has been reported, with additional unknown injuries.

All inbound traffic is being diverted onto North Avenue at this time, and drivers should avoid the area.

According to IDOT, the outbound side of I-290 is "choked with rubberneckers," and the two left lanes are now also closed, as well as all lanes on the inbound side. The closure is expected to last for several hours.

ABC reported that one of the semis was on fire as of 2:30 p.m. and fire crews are on the scene.
