Mazzochi Vs. Zordani: How Many Big Macs Is Your Vote Worth?
Candidates raise a combined $1 million in the race for the seat representing Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Western Springs and Clarendon Hills.

ELMHURST, IL — The two candidates in the 47th House District race spent north of $1 million to get your vote.
In Tuesday's election, state Rep. Deanne Mazzochi, an Elmhurst Republican, defeated Democrat Jennifer Zordani of Clarendon Hills with 55 percent of the vote.
Zordani raised $605,000 during the election cycle, while Mazzochi pulled in $431,000, according to state Board of Elections reports. That totals $1,036,000.

With that amount, the candidates could have bought two large Big Mac meals for every voter. Those meals would be at the going rate of $8.71 at Elmhurst's McDonald's.
Of Mazzochi's $431,000, nearly half — $200,000 — came from hedge fund entrepreneur Ken Griffin, the state's richest man.

Nearly two thirds of Zordani's money came from Democratic Party organizations controlled by longtime House Speaker Michael Madigan, a Chicago Democrat.
The 47th District includes Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Western Springs and Clarendon Hills. Mazzochi was elected in 2018.
