More Than 100 Elmhurst Residents Take Part in Chicago Marathon

Sunday's event drew thousands.

CHICAGO, IL — The Bank of America Chicago Marathon wasn't thin on Elmhurst runners — more than 100 took part is yesterday's race. The 26.2-mile course took runners through 29 Chicago neighborhoods that went all the way north to Wrigley Field and south to US Cellular Field.

Nate Mcpherson, 32, was the first Elmhurst resident to finish the race at a time of 2:59:16, according to unofficial Chicago Marathon results. He finished 854th overall, 773rd in his gender and 172nd in his 30-34 age division.

Close behind Mcpherson was Matt Forster, who finished in 3:02:23 and placed 230th in his 25-29 age group.

Here are some of Elmhurst's other fastest finishers:

  • Shari Lund, 22 (20-24 age division), 3:05:27
  • Jason Telford, 35 (35-39 age division), 3:15:32
  • David Stevenson, 52 (50-54 age division), 3:20:20
  • Mitch Upton, 35 (35-39 age division), 3:27:29
  • Melissa Landers, 24 (20-24 age division), 3:28:12

Elite runners from Kenya dominated the race. Kenyan Abel Kirui finished first with a time of 2:11:22, beating out last year’s champion and fellow Kenyan Dickson Chum in the final mile. Florence Kiplagat, 29, was the top female finisher clocking in at 2:22:31. Results are still unofficial.
