Prostitution, DUIs and...a Candy Thief? Elmhurst Police Blotter

Take a look at what Elmhurst policemen were busy with on Halloween.

The following crimes took place between Monday, Oct. 31 and Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Prostitution

  • Adriana Soto, 53, posted an online ad advertising prostitution in the Elmhurst area. A police officer responded to her posting undercover, and Soto agreed to sexual acts with that officer. She was placed under arrest, charged and released on bond.

DUI

  • Santiago P. Garcia-Ojeda, 46, was arrested at the intersection of Lake and Church for driving under the influence. He also wasn’t carrying a valid driver’s license.
  • Michael Vasser, 47, was charged with driving under the influence when he was stopped by police who also found he had no driver’s license, an expired registration and was illegally transporting alcohol. He was also found to be wanted in DuPage County.

Theft

  • A woman reported a stolen license plate on Grand Ave. when a delivery driver noticed it was missing the morning of Oct. 31. She’d last seen the plate on her car the night before.

  • A woman called the police when a man came to her door during trick-or-treating hours Oct. 31 and tried to grab her whole basket of candy, but she wouldn’t let go. His forceful attempt caused her to fall down and injure her leg. Some trick-or-treaters who had just visited the woman’s house stayed to help her back up.

Identity theft

  • A man living on DuPage Ave. reported to the police that he had received two pieces of electronic equipment in the mail that he hadn’t ordered. He also found six unauthorized transactions on his PayPal account, which he was able to straighten out with the company.
  • A woman who lives on E. Yorkfield told a police officer she got a letter from the Comenity Bank in Ohio thanking her for her recent application for a Meijer credit card. She called the bank, who told her the account had been opened online and that they couldn’t give her any more information.
  • A woman walked into Fifth Third Bank on York Rd. and asked to cash a check from Everactive Solutions, Inc. She didn’t have an account at the bank and was carrying a fake Oklahoma driver’s license. She left before police arrived.

Battery

  • Several people reported being shot at with paintballs while walking home from school. They were shot at while a black car, containing three high-school-aged boys, drove past.
  • The same day as the previous paintballing incident — Nov. 2 — a man said he got off of a bus at West and Belden with his friend when a dark green car pulled up to them. Two men — one in the front seat and one in the back seat — were in the car, and the back window was rolled down to expose a paint gun pointed straight at them. The gun was fired at least eight times, and one victim was hit in the chest.

Traffic violations

  • Jonathan Beinlich, 23, of Lincolnshire was arrested on Route 83 at North Ave. for not slowing down in order to avoid an accident.
  • Marshall A. Jones, 51, was arrested at a traffic stop when he was found to be driving an uninsured vehicle with only one working headlight, suspended license plates, suspended registration and a suspended driver’s license.
  • Sandra Balbuena, 31, was arrested for having only one working headlight, no driver’s license and no insurance.
