Theft Arrests, Car Crash Clash: Elmhurst Cops

Man with drugs found with bicycle stolen in town, police say.

ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving theft suspects, a car crash confrontation, a tennis ball thrower, a dog biting another dog, stolen catalytic converters, a possible wallet theft and a shattered window. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Theft suspects

  • Clyde Davis, 50, of Maywood, was arrested about 6 p.m. Monday on charges of possession of a controlled substance, theft, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing identification. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, police responded to the 300 block of East Third Street for a bicycle theft. Davis was found with a stolen bicycle and a controlled substance. He has a warrant from the Broadview Police Department.
  • Orlando Perez, 47, of Chicago, was arrested about 3 p.m. Monday at Mariano's, 678 N. York, on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon. He was found with brass knuckles. He was released on bond. In the same incident, Christina Cruz, 48, of Necedah, Wisconsin, was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and felony retail theft. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Car crash confrontation

  • After a car accident about noon Tuesday in the 700 block of North Larch Avenue, the victim said a suspect grabbed her arm during a brief confrontation. There were no visible injuries. An investigation is pending.

Tennis ball thrower

  • A woman told police that a suspect threw a tennis ball at her daughter about 4 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of South Hillside Avenue. The suspect, Raelene Stamm, 45, of Elmhurst, was charged with disorderly conduct and released.

Dog bites dog

  • A resident in the 200 block of Fremont Avenue told police that a dog bit his dog through a backyard fence about 7 p.m. Tuesday. The resident's dog suffered an injury to the right leg. The case was referred to DuPage County Animal Services.

Converters stolen

  • A catalytic converter was removed from a car in a driveway about 5 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of North Addison Avenue. The victim's wife awoke to a loud noise coming from outside the residence. She said she saw a man leaving the area in a black four-door car, which was last seen heading north on Addison. Also, catalytic converters were taken from two cars that were parked at West Automotive Service, 265 N. West Ave., about 5 a.m. Tuesday. The suspect's car was described as a gray four-door sedan with tinted windows. Investigations are pending. The metals in catalytic converters have become a lot more valuable in the last year.

Possible wallet theft

  • A woman believes her wallet may have been stolen from her purse while she was grocery shopping about 4 p.m. Tuesday at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St.

Window shattered

  • A Chevrolet Monte Carlo's rear window was shattered about 11:30 a.m Wednesday at Berens Park, 493 Oaklawn Ave.

Driving violations

  • Nathaniel Rivera, 18, of Norridge, was cited about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at North and Melrose on charges of no valid driver's license, speeding and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was released on bond.
