Thief Chased, Man Upset With Bar: Elmhurst Cops

A man pursues a suspect who took his iPhone and wallet, police say.

ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving an iPhone theft, a man upset with a bar, a car going missing from a dealership, rings stolen from a home, a domestic disturbance, a landlord-tenant dispute and a dog bite, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest police reports:

Thief pursued

  • A man stole an iPhone and a wallet from a person’s room about 3:30 a.m. Saturday at SpringHill Suites, 410 W. Lake St. The victim said he confronted the suspect and chased after him as he ran out of the hotel. The suspect dropped the victim’s wallet in the parking lot and then left in a beige four-door sedan.

Upset bar was closed

  • A man threw patio chairs about 9 p.m. Sunday at Riley’s Gathering Place, 590 S. York St. The man told officers he was upset the bar was closed. The business decided not to file a complaint, but asked that police issue the man a no-trespass notice.

Car goes missing

  • Napleton Acura, 745 W. Lake St., told police that a car went missing from the lot between March 1 and June 4. The car’s key was placed in a lockbox. The case is pending an investigation.

Rings stolen from home

  • Two gold wedding bands were taken from a woman’s house May 24 in the 100 block of Elmwood Terrace. The victim said a company was recently in the home to do work and had access to the room where the rings were kept. An investigation is pending.

Domestic disturbance

  • A domestic disturbance happened at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Knighton Place. A woman showed up at a man’s house unannounced. When the woman was moving a walker, the man said she scratched his leg with it. The woman said she did not know she scraped the man’s leg. The woman was advised to set up a schedule for visits.

Landlord-tenant dispute

  • A resident on Elm Creek Drive told police Friday that he did not wish to renew his lease, but the landlord billed him anyway. An officer spoke with an owner’s representative, who said the matter is being addressed by the corporate attorney.

Dog bite

  • A woman said that while walking her dog at 4:30 p.m. May 28 at Linden and Park, a brown dog ran across the street and bit her dog twice. The case has been referred to DuPage County Animal Control.

Damage to car

  • A driver’s side door on a car was damaged about 3 p.m. Saturday at Carl Sandburg Middle School, 345 E. St. Charles Road. The suspect admitted to accidentally damaging the car door when he opened his car’s door. The car’s owner declined to pursue a complaint.

Documents stolen

  • A resident in the 600 block of South Bryan Street told police that someone took documents from her purse while she was asleep in her bedroom about 7 a.m. Sunday. She said she believed she knew who was responsible for the theft.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 100 block of Larch Avenue told police Thursday that his Social Security number was used without authorization at a hospital, with the unrelated bill sent to collections.

Bicycles found

  • An officer took possession of a blue and white Raleigh brand bicycle that was left unlocked in a bike rack Saturday at Sandburg Middle School. 345 E. St. Charles Road. The officer conducted an inquiry of the serial number, but was unable to find owner information. The bike was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
  • A blue Schwinn Fenite bicycle was found abandoned about 8:30 a.m. Sunday near Palmer and the railroad.
  • A white Diamondback bicycle was found about 7:30 a.m. Saturday in a back yard in the 300 block of South Poplar Avenue. The bike was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
