Want to Shape Up in 2016? 5 Ways to Stick to Fit
Stay in shape all year long with these easy to manage tips.

Want to backtrack that holiday bulge or finally get fit this year? People Magazine interview celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak on easy ways to stay fit and keep it off.
It’s easiest to pick up new habits than to overwhelm your fitness regime, Pasternak said. Instead of a difficult new workout class or trendy diet, pick up five new habits to keep weight off.
- Eat more protein and fiber, make it five times a day. If you eat three meals and two snacks a day make sure each time you eat your foods are rich in fiber and full of protein to help you feel full. Keep healthy snacks handy and drink plenty of water. Don’t mistake hunger for thirst.
- Got a Fitbit for Christmas? Work in those 10,000 steps. Take a walk with friends, walk the dog or take the long way to get your steps in. Partner with a friend and make it a competition to ensure you get 10,000 steps a day. At work take a break walk, don’t just walk for an hour. Keep moving.
- Get at least seven hours of sleep every night. If you don’t have enough energy to stay awake you won’t be energetic enough to burn calories. Make this earlier and limit scene time in the bedroom before hitting the pillow.
- Get active everyday with at least five minutes of resistance training. Working with weights-- even if it’s your body weight-- helps you build muscle and burn fat. Whether you’re doing squats or lifting weights get your body active every day.
- Unplug for at least an hour a day. Turn off iPhone notification and turn off stress. Increased stress makes it more difficult to lose weight, so take a breather and your waist may get smaller.
