York High Standout Headed To Augustana

Senior plans to study elementary education in college.

ELMHURST, IL — Conor Laughlin, a multi-sport standout from York High School, plans to attend Augustana College in Rock Island in the fall, the college announced in a news release this week. He is set to continue his athletic career as a member of the college's wrestling, cross country, and track and field programs, the release said.

The 5 foot, 5 inch, 150-pound Laughlin logged a 58-45 record over four years with coach Nick Metcalf's York grapplers, the college said. He was the Dukes' most improved wrestler as a freshman and finished 19-6 as a junior and 12-9 during his senior season.

Competing for coach Charlie Kern in track and cross country, Laughlin recorded personal bests of :12.33 at 100 meters, :25.58 in the 200, 113 feet, 6 inches in the discus, 5:30 in the mile and 17:51 over three miles, according to Augustana.

Laughlin is the son of Tina and Sean Laughlin of Elmhurst. A four-year honor roll student and Academic All-Conference selection, he is planing to study elementary education at Augustana, the release said.
