York Hockey Spirit Night Raises $5K For Cancer Research

This year's "Stick it to Cancer – It's our Goal" event raised $6,000 which will be donated to cancer research.

ELMHURST, IL — The York Hockey Club has been busy both on and off the ice recently. On Oct. 21, the club hosted it annual Spirit Night. The annual event included not only games from the Varsity and JV squads, but also an off-ice raffle, featuring themed gift baskets and other items donated by the team’s families and area vendors.

This year’s “Stick it to Cancer – It’s our Goal” event raised $6,000 which will be donated to cancer research, the club said.

“The York Hockey community takes great pride in supporting charitable causes including the fight against cancer,” York Hockey Club President Bruce Bare said in a release. “It’s a great opportunity for our players and our club to engage in causes that go beyond the ice. The players all dedicated the night to someone they knew who was impacted by cancer – so the evening was very meaningful.”

The club said players are now turning their attention to the Club’s annual Toys for Tots event, set for Friday, Dec. 1, when the Dukes host SHL rival Glenbrook North at the Addison Ice Rink. The Varsity game is set for a 7 p.m. puck drop. The JV game follows at 8:55.

Players are currently accepting donations of new and unwrapped toys from family, friends, neighbors and businesses to bring to the rink on Dec. 1. The club said the toys will be displayed and presented to the representatives from the U.S. Marine Corp who will be on hand for the game. The Marine Corp will distribute the toys to local children in need. Fans attending the Dec. 1 game are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the game.
