Brother Rice Grad from Evergreen Park Drafted by Tennessee Titans

"Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, there's a little nasty in all of us," says Andy Gallik.

Evergreen Park’s Andy Gallik, a 2010 graduate of Brother Rice High School, was drafted as a lineman by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round of this weekend’s NFL Draft in Chicago.

“Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, there’s a little nasty in all of us,” Gallik said at the NFL college scouting combine earlier this year. Gallik’s quote was tweeted by his hometown Chicago Bears.

Gallik was a four-year starter at Boston College, a team captain and an All-Atlantic Coast Conference player in 2013. He was projected as a late-round pick.

At Brother Rice, he was first-team all-state.

“From Day One at Brother Rice, he set the goal of being a Division I offensive lineman, and [he] worked tirelessly to reach that goal,” Brother Rice Director of Admissions Tim O’Connell, who also coached Gallik when he played for the Crusaders, told DNAinfo in 2014. “Andy’s sacrifice, commitment and effort to achieving his goals on the field and in the classroom are a shining example to our student-athletes today, and continue to make our staff very proud.”

He played tackle in high school but shifted to center in college.

“I’ve watched (Roberto) Garza and (Olin) Kreutz ever since I was little,” Gallik told ChicagoBears.com. “I watch a lot of the centers in the league and try to pick up on techniques, hand placement and footwork, a lot of stuff from different guys. It’s always good to gather information on the guys that are playing in the league.”

Gallik earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and hopes to attend law school after football.
