EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Christmas Without Cancer’s Queen of Hearts fundraiser resumes after a year of interruptions from the pandemic. The drawing will take place 7 p.m. May 13 at St. James Place Oak Lawn.

Tickets will be available at St. James Place, 5305 W. 95th St., where the weekly drawing will be held. Tickets are $5 or five for $20. Online ticket sales will be available for five for $20 only. St. James Place and Christmas Without Cancer will offer complimentary food on drawing nights, which happen every Thursday.

The Queen of Hearts pot will start at $20,000. Once the Queen is found, the pot will be split by 50% between the lucky winner and Christmas Without Cancer. If a card is pulled and does not reveal the Queen, the ticket-holder will receive $50 cash and $20 in free tickets for the following drawing.

Christmas Without Cancer and St. James Place first partnered together in 2019 with the organization’s first-ever Queen of Hearts Fundraiser. After a hugely successful run, the winning card was drawn in September 2020 with a pot reaching nearly $250,000.

“Christmas Without Cancer is thrilled to be back at St. James Place, where it all began two years ago,” said Renee Copeland, vice president of Christmas Without Cancer. “Our first Queen of Hearts campaign was a huge success for us, and the winner was someone who had been deeply impacted by cancer. We can't wait to see what our second round brings, and looking forward to seeing our supporters in-person or via Facebook live for our weekly drawings.”

The grassroots non-profit provides holiday gifts, as well as the basic necessities year-round to local families that are stricken with cancer. Founded in 2003 by oncology nurse Gerri Neylon, the organization has quietly identified and adopted multiple families throughout the year and supplied them with gift cards for groceries, medications, gas and other “need” items.
St. James Place is located at 5305 West 95th Street.
