EVERGREEN PARK, IL — We are in the midst of a major snow event. A winter storm warning is in effect until noon Tuesday, Feb. 16. Snow is expected to continue during the overnight hours of Monday into Tuesday.

Evergreen Park street crews will be up all night clearing snow as you sleep. They will work the main arteries first, then move into the residential streets. If at all possible, please get your cars off the streets which will allow plows to get to the curbs. The village understands that not everyone can, but a little helps.

Also, do the Evergreen Park Fire Department -- and your neighbors -- a solid by keeping the fire hydrants clear of snow. Piles are getting bigger as everyone digs out and there is less space available to throw the snow. Keeping the hydrants free from snow is a proactive safety measure in case your house or your neighbor’s, catches fire.

The water division recommends that you keep a small trickle of water running through your faucet to keep the pipes from freezing if your plumbing is on an outside wall. By tomorrow, it should be getting warmer.

And as usual, please stay in if you can, and don't forget to check in on your neighbors, especially the elderly or disabled.
