'Evergreen Art' Exhibit Showcases Works of Local Photographers

Local photographers' works show unique perspectives of village in 'Evergreen Art' exhibit at the Evergreen Park Public Library.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- Four talented local photographers are displaying their works is an exhibit called “Evergreen Art” in honor of the village’s 125th anniversary. The exhibit will be on display during the months of July and August at the Evergreen Park Public Library. The photographs show unique views of Evergreen Park landmarks and parks.

Claudia Parker, of Claudia Parker Portraits, has photos of the Evergreen Park Fire Station, Yukich Fields and Little Company of Mary Hospital on view.

“I’ve been a resident of EP since 2001. I’ve always loved photography, I was a lifelong hobbyist until I took a job working for The Reporter newspaper in 2013 as a journalist. Photography became critical to the role, so I started studying the craft, taking classes, and investing in professional gear. I started my own business, Claudia Parker Portraits in June of 2017,” said Parker, “I love EP; this community has been good to me and my family. I am grateful to have captured just a tiny bit of the beauty this community has to offer.”

Laura Gibson Kelly, an Evergreen Park resident since 2015, has a passion for photography and is happy to have her work displayed at the library.

“My favorite place in the area to take photos is 50-Acre Park because of the urban farm. It is always full of life and has so much beauty to offer. I took two different photos on separate occasions: my bee photo (“Pollinator”) was taken last spring later in the season after the flowers had bloomed, and my horse photo (“Grazers”) was taken on a perfect summer day just last month,” said Kelly.

“The urban farm brings me a lot of joy and the surrounding park is such a great place for people to enjoy the outdoors. I’m hoping my photos enlighten residents about the wonderful resources we have in our own backyard!”

Bernard Hoskins, of BNHoskins Photography and resident for 18 years with his wife and business partner, Ruth, has photos displayed of 50-Acre Park.

“I think it’s important for Evergreen Park Residents to see these pictures so that they can
see that there is a very scenic, pretty place to visit, right in our own EP backyard. It’s a
nice peaceful place to take a stroll. Who knows you might even get a chance to see the
horses,” said Hoskins.

Hoskins was impressed with the conditions under which he captured the photos:

“We absolutely love the new 50-Acre Park, located near 91st and California. It’s a
little gem in our town. It was a beautiful day. The conditions were just right. I’ve
looked at this park many times, and this day was perfect for going over to take
pictures.”

Mike Lamb, an Evergreen Park resident since 1997, shared his photos of Grand Trunk Park, also known as Candy Cane Park.

“Parks are important for the wide-open space and they are usually close enough to walk to,” said Lamb, “Candy Cane Park is a short walk from my house and I find it especially photogenic and peaceful when it’s empty.”
