EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- The Evergreen Park Candlelight Theatre players hit the boards with an original musical that chronicles the history of America’s greatest entertainment. Performances for “Come Along And Listen To The Lullaby On Broadway” will open this weekend in the performance hall at the Evergreen Park Senior Center, 9547 S. Homan Ave.

“Come Along and Listen To The Lullaby On Broadway” is wrapped up in the back story of a pair of ingenues who become friends on their way to the “big audition.” Overwhelmed by the grandeur of the Great White Way, they are visited by “Mr. Broadway,” a sort of patron saint of musical theater. Mr Broadway tells the girls -- and the audience -- the whole story of Broadway, from its vaudeville and operetta roots to its present-day juggernaut. Some of the great musical numbers of famous shows are revisited along the way.

The show features an all-ages cast from the Evergreen Park and surrounding communities. Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 7 and June 8, with a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday, June 9. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and $7 for children under 10. Buy tickets in advance at the NEW Evergreen Park Community Center, 3450 W. 97th St., or at the door.
