Evergreen Park Man, 20, Fatally Struck by Metra Train Identified: UPDATE
The man was hit Monday night.

CHICAGO, IL Update — The pedestrian struck by a commuter train Monday evening has been identified as Adam Rodriguez, 20, of Evergreen Park, Metra officials said.
Rodriguez was struck around 10:15 p.m. on the Rock Island line near the 99th Street Metra station. Train 529 had departed from LaSalle Street about 45 minutes earlier.
According to the locomotive engineer, the train was traveling southbound when he observed some one walking eastbound with their head down, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said via email.

“The engineer told police that he sounded his horn and the person looked up briefly, then put their head down again,” Reile said. “[the person] started walking more quickly toward the train and then appeared to lie down near the tracks.”
Reile said the engineer initiated emergency braking procedures but was unable to stop in time. The train involved was delayed 76 minutes. Three other trains also experienced delays.

Original story -- An Evergreen Park man was hit and killed by a Metra train late Monday.
The pedestrian, identified as 20-year-old Adam Rodriguez of the 9600 block of South Francisco Avenue, was struck around 10:15 p.m. by outbound Rock Island train 529 near the 99th Street station.
He was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m., reports Chicago Sun-Times.
