Evergreen Park Recreation Department Reopens Under Tier 2 Rules

The youth center at the Evergreen Park Community Center will reopen Jan. 25, while open skating is available this weekend.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — The Evergreen Park Recreation Department will reopen the youth center Monday, Jan. 25 as suburban Cook County moves into Tier 2 mitigations following a decline in local COVID-19 cases.

The youth department located inside the Evergreen Park Community Center, ADDRESS, will be open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Community Chores program, which pairs youth with older residents to help with snow shoveling and light yard work, will resume.

Also, ice skating will get underway at the Dan Capuano Ice Rink in Yukich Field, 89th Street and Kedzie Avenue. The weekend promises to be chilly for a change. You can get some skating in from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23.

COVID-19 mitigations were loosened for suburban Cook County and Chicago on Jan. 19, allowing for group recreation activity, but with limited classes of 25 participants or 25 percent of overall room capacity both indoors and outdoors. Youth and recreation sports may also resume in accordance with state health guidance, according to IDPH guidelines. Facemasks and social distancing will be required.

Suburban Cook County and Chicago have demonstrated positivity rates of less than 12 percent for 11 consecutive days, and declining COVID-19 hospitalizations for 10 consecutive days. Area hospitals have also had more than 20 percent of ICU beds available.
