'Giants In The Park' Exhibit Opens At Evergreen Park Library

EVERGREEN PARK — A new exhibit by Chicago artist and historian Krista August opens Oct. 1 at the Evergreen Park Public Library, 9400 S. Troy Ave. August will discuss her award-winning book “Giants In the Park: A Guide to Portrait Statutes In Chicago’s Lincoln Park,” starting at 7 p.m.

“Giants In the Park” is an essential item on any Chicago lover’s bookshelf. August delves into the history and literature of Chicago’s largest park through Lincoln Park’s enduring bronze statues, the stories about the heroes, the artists, the benefactors, and the unveiling ceremonies.

August explores early Chicago personalities, the Columbian Exposition of 1893, the Haymarket affair, the Great Chicago Fire, the Civil War, early Chicago ethnic groups, the park’s cemetery years and much more.

Illustrations from the book and other pieces of artwork from August’s personal collection will be on display through Oct. 31. Space is limited to the first 25 registered. Patrons on the waiting list may attend by joining Zoom. (Meeting ID 856 2530 8597; passcode 255397.) Register online.

The Evergreen Park Public Library also has new hours, September 8, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Curbside pickup is still available.
