Injured Cutler Could Mean a New Bears Starting QB; Is It Tebow Time?

Coach John Fox won't say if Jay Cutler's strained hamstring will keep him off the field. If it does, who should take his place under center?

When Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was injured in the third quarter of Sunday’s loss against the Arizona Cardinals, a certain group of Bears fans probably thought their prayers had been answered.

That group, of course, consists of fans who love to hate Cutler.

As of Monday, Bears coach John Fox hasn’t said Cutler had suffered a strained hamstring that he categorized as “not real severe,” according to an ESPN report. Fox, however, wouldn’t say if the injury would sideline Cutler or even if he would be Chicago’s starting quarterback Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Currently, Jimmy Clausen is the backup quarterback for the Bears, but that hasn’t stopped fans from widely speculating what the team should do if that injured hamstring forces Cutler to miss games. If you ask Bears fans—at least those on social media—they want to see University of Florida Heisman winner and occasional Good Morning America host Tim Tebow.

The Chicago Sun-Times posted a slew of Twitter comments from fans suggesting that the 0-2 Bears should sign Tebow—who has had little success staying with an NFL team, being cut from the Denver Broncos, New York Jets and, most recently, the Philadelphia Eagles—to take over as quarterback. Here’s what some of them were saying:

Agree RT @BearDown_DS: If Cutler is out next week, we need to sign either Kyle Orton or Matt Flynn. Jimmy Clausen isn’t going to cut it.

@BurtVid @ChicagoBears @TimTebow I’m a Bears fan til I die but if the Cubs are on I will watch them over the Bears unless tebow is there lol

#Bears should just call it a day & bring in Tebow. At the very least it would bring some buzz to the games & maybe JUST MAYBE the man balls.

Tebow is really not a bad idea. The Bears have no one to throw to, so he could just run. He’s bad, sure. The Eagles cut him, and they reek.

But if the Bears want Tebow, they might need to pull the trigger quick on signing him. The Dallas Cowboys also might be eyeing Tebow after their quarterback, Tony Romo, also was injured Sunday. Romo will be out about eight weeks with a fractured clavicle.

YOUR TURN: Should the Chicago Bears sign Tim Tebow to take over as quarterback if Jay Cutler’s hamstring injury makes him miss games? Is there another free agent QB out there who might be better? Or should they just give the ball to backup QB Jimmy Clausen? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section.
