“OUT OF THE COLD:” LOCAL COLD WAR VETERAN INSPIRES CAPACITY CROWD AT BEVELY AREA PRESENTATION
Jim Gorman, currently a Chicago Firefighter, inspired a capacity crowd at on Thursday night with tales of Cold War exploits and previously classified service as a ten - year veteran of covert programs. Jim spoke to a crowd of over 100 people at a lecture sponsored by the All Saints Club, a local fraternal organization in Beverly that according to the President, Brian Bonner, “Was started by men from surrounding parishes to have a meeting place close to home to commiserate and support each other’s parishes and causes.”
At the lecture, Gorman covered various Cold War topics but the opening slide in the accompanying visuals which contain a quote from former Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, set the tone and stage for the depth of Jim’s experiences, “Take it from me, his credentials for talking about courage and calculated risks are unparalleled.”
Gorman’s easy going presentation style and intriguing content was well received by the audience. All Saints Club President, Bonner, had this to say about Gorman’s presentation, “He definitely didn’t disappoint. The presentation was a good mix of fact, relevant stories and of course humor.”
Bonner went on to say, “Based on feedback from several people afterwards, everyone really enjoyed it. I personally was fascinated with the intel regarding the Russian government and how they have been trying to tarnish our nation’s reputation across the world through social media.”
Because many Cold War events are now declassified, he and other people from his era are able to discuss their service publicly. In addition to his recent presentation at the All Saints Club, Jim has presented to national audiences across the country.
