Possible Child Luring Incident Reported in Evergreen Park

Evergreen Park police ask residents to check home security and Ring cameras for suspicious vehicles.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Police will put extra patrols around Evergreen Park schools after a student reported a man in a van offering to drive the student home. Dist. 124 officials emailed parents notifying them of the incident.

A Central Middle School student walking home from school Tuesday afternoon near 94th Street and Central Park Avenue told police he head a "male voice" offering to drive the student home. The student continued walking and did not engage the man.

The middle school student did not see the person speaking and was not certain of the make or model of the vehicle, police said. The student believed the vehicle made have been a white van or a smaller vehicle.

Police are asking residents in the area to check their home security cameras or Ring doorbells that may have recorded the incident, and to report it to police if you think you captured video of the man or vehicle.

"District 124 takes student safety very seriously, and we are sharing this information in hopes of spreading awareness and preventing future incidents," district officials said. "We ask that you please remind students to be diligent and aware of their surroundings as they walk to and from school."
