July 15 is National Give Something Away Day. The Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Frankfort, Illinois, have issued a challenge through their website www.fssh.net. Each day until July 15, look for something of yours to give away that is of value, is beautiful or useful. Then on July 15, deliver the items to your favorite thrift store or to someone you know who would need or enjoy it. The Sisters believe that even if you find just one thing to part with, it could be a powerful and meaningful choice. Participants are then asked to send a brief email to sisters@fssh.net telling about what they have decided to let go of and what effect this had on them or others. They might mention how long has it been on their heart to let it go or if this Franciscan Challenge was their prompting. Submitted stories or portions of them may be shared in FSSH publications or social media. If they wish, participants can use just their first name and city. Stories should be submitted by July 18.
