Bland Named Village Trustee In Glenview

GLENVIEW, IL — Calling all 28 candidates for the job "strong," Glenview Village President Mike Jenny appointed Jim Bland to fill his open trustee seat on the Glenview Village Board. The board, in turn, confirmed Bland for the position at a special Tuesday night meeting.

"In our search for a Trustee, it was imperative to make the process open and as far-reaching and inclusive as possible, to not only reflect our community’s values, but to consider the most qualified and capable candidates," Jenny said in a news release.

Jenny's two-year seat became available after he was sworn in as village president on May 4 following an uncontested election the prior month. As governed by the Illinois Municipal Code, municipal vacancies in Glenview are filled by the appointment of the Village President with the advice and consent of the Village Board.

Bland, according to the news release, has more than 20 years of investing, consulting, finance, mergers and acquisitions, operational and military leadership experience. He has 16 years of private equity experience, where he has "focused entirely on investing and forecasting growth in lower middle market companies." Prior to his private equity career, Bland worked in operational and consulting roles at E&Y and HSBC, North America.

"After rigorous assessment, we identified several strong finalists," Jenny said. "While we could only select one person for the role, this process affirms what makes Glenview great: we are a community eager to serve, lead and inspire.”

Bland served 8.5 years in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard, resigning as a Captain, according to the news release. Bland continues to serve the Department of Defense as the Civilian Aid to the Secretary of the Army for Illinois. In this capacity, Bland represents the Secretary of the Army on official Army matters and is afforded a 3-star general protocol rank.

Bland has "extensive board experience," having served on private, government and non-profit boards, according to the news release. His municipal board experience includes the Affordable Housing Commission for Georgetown, Texas, and Commissioner for the City of Chicago’s Community Development Commission.

Bland has a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Bland and his wife, Jennifer, have two children and have lived in Glenview for 13 years.
