'Isaac Just Stabbed Me': Glenview Man In Court After Dad's Death
Bond was set for Isaac Thurston, 20, accused of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his father, during a Tuesday afternoon hearing.
GLENVIEW, IL — A 20-year-old man appeared in bond court Tuesday afternoon, a day after he is accused of fatally stabbing his father in their Glenview home. Isaac Thurston has been charged with felony first-degree murder following the death of Perron M. Thurston, 50, of the 1100 block of Arbor Lane.
Bond was set at $1 million for the younger Thurston after a petition of no bond by prosecutors was denied at the Skokie Courthouse. The court is requiring electronic monitoring if Isaac Thurston is released. He is due back in court on Aug. 29.
Isaac Thurston was represented by Douglas Zeit, a Waukegan-based lawyer, on Tuesday. Jim Lynch represented the Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney's Office.

According to a bond proffer, which was read by Lynch in court and provided to Patch by the CCASAO, Isaac and Perron Thurston were involved in a verbal altercation at around 6:30 a.m. Isaac Thurston had allegedly smoked cannabis earlier that morning, which upset Perron. The elder Thurston then told his son that he should not work his job that day at a coffee shop because of the cannabis consumption. Lynch said that Perron Thurston later called Isaac's workplace, telling his employer that he "could not work."
The argument continued into the kitchen, according to prosecutors. Soon thereafter, they say Isaac Thurston picked up a knife from a block on the counter and stabbed his father one time on the left side of his torso. Perron Thurston, who was taken to Lutheran General Hospital by Glenview firefighters, would later die from his injury at 10:44 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Lynch said that Perron Thurston then called for his wife and reportedly said, "Isaac just stabbed me." His wife, who had been in bed, came to the kitchen and called 911. The couple's other son also came to the kitchen upon hearing the racket from his bedroom and began chest compressions on his father.
When police arrived at the home, Isaac Thurston was reportedly standing inside the home with blood on his hands and clothes, according to prosecutors. They said he told responding officers, "I don't know why I did it," and "I'm a murderer." Isaac Thurston gave a further statement to Glenview police on camera and after being given his Miranda rights, describing what occurred. Prosecutors said he did not report any physical contact with Perron Thurston prior to the stabbing.
Prosecutors said it was the first arrest for Isaac Thurston, and he told police there was no prior physical violence with his father or physical abuse by Perron Thurston in their relationship.
