GLENVIEW, IL — The home stretch of the holiday season has arrived, with the final week of 2019 beginning with Christmas Eve on Tuesday. Communities across the North Shore are putting the final touches on preparations for the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Last-minute shoppers are out picking up presents and ingredients for holiday meals, travelers are taking to the roads and the sky as they head out to meet family and friends for the festive period, while most students are enjoying their winter break through the start of 2020.

First responders and employees at some businesses will be working on Christmas and New Year's, but most area business will be closed to give workers a chance to gather to share the holiday with loved ones.

Post office: Closed

Federal offices: Closed

Banks: Closed

Gas stations: Open

Glenview Holiday Refuse Collection: No recycling or trash collections will take place on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. Tuesday collection will go ahead as normal, and pickups scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be delayed by one day on both weeks.

Glenview Village Hall Holiday Hours: Non-emergency village offices will close at noon on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 and all day Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 for the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

Glenview Public Library: Closed from 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and all day Dec. 25. The library also closes at 1 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will remain closed on Jan. 1.

Glenview Public Schools: Closed for winter break through Jan. 6.

Glenview Park District: The fitness center will be closed Dec. 25 and have reduced hours through Jan. 1. The senior center will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1. The district is also hosting a "Noon" Year's Eve kid-friendly celebration on Dec. 31 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Park Center, and the Kohl Children's Museum is hosting a New Year's Eve Bash from 8:30 to 11 a.m. from from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Grocery stores: Most will be closed Christmas Day, some will be open and many will have adjusted hours.
