College Credits: Glenview Resident Receives Honor At Emerson

Emerson College Student Inducted into Gold Key Honor Society
Lilly Meehan-Egan, of Glenview, is among the 2021 Gold Key Honor Society Inductees for the academic year 2020-2021. The Gold Key Honor Society is an interdisciplinary organization founded at Emerson College in 1962 in order to recognize and encourage outstanding academic achievement. Membership in the Society is extended to juniors in the top 5 percent and seniors in the top 10 percent of their class who have earned at least 48 credits at Emerson. Meehan-Egan is pursuing a major in Political Communication and is a member of the Emerson College Class of 2022.

Sammie Simkins Presents Research At Annual UW System Symposium
Sammie Simkins, from Glenview, who is studying communication sciences and disorders, presented research at the 19th annual UW System Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity, hosted virtually by UW-Whitewater, on April 28. Simkins presented on An evaluation of the acoustic filtering properties of face coverings and shields with male, female, and child voices. The symposium showcases undergraduate research, creative achievement and service learning conducted or performed by students across Wisconsin during the 2020-2021 academic year. Presentations reflect diverse fields of study, including the humanities, fine arts and biological, physical and social sciences. Undergraduate research is considered a high impact practice. Jalal Nawash, director of Undergraduate Research at UW-Whitewater, said "Research opens doors of opportunity, lighting up a path for your future."

Logan Steenbergen Earns NEWMAC Award
Twenty-five Emerson fall athletes were named in March to the New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference Team, with players from the Emerson women's volleyball team, women's soccer team, men's soccer team, and women's cross-country team recognized for their academic achievements. Honorees must have met the following criteria to be considered: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2020 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire semester. Logan Steenbergen, of Glenview, plays on the Volleyball team. Steenbergen is pursuing a degree in Media Arts Production and is a member of the Emerson College Class of 2023.

Jessica Whalen Named to Knox College Dean's List
Jessica Whalen, of Glenview, has been named to the Knox College Dean's List of distinguished students for the 2021 Winter Term. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must have earned at least 2.5 credits in the term, with a grade point average of 3.6 or better (on a 4.0 scale). Whalen's major is Undecided at Knox.
