Discount Grocer Aldi Opens On Willow Road In Glenview

The Batavia-based chain is hiring as it aims to become the third-largest grocery retailer in the nation over the next two years.

GLENVIEW, IL — Shoppers in Glenview have another choice for groceries after Aldi's opened the doors of its newest location for the first time last week.

The new store is located 2195 Willow Road, next to the Kohl's department store and near the village's borders with Northfield and Northbrook.

The store's regular hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

According to the company's website, Aldi is hiring full and part-time positions at the new location, which will employ 15 to 20 people.

"This Glenview store is part of our accelerated growth plan that we launched in 2017," Aldi Vice President Laura Branneman said in a statement, according to the Glenview Journal.

"As part of this plan, we are investing more than $5 billion to remodel 1,300 existing stores and open hundreds of new stores across the country, including this Glenview store."

Headquartered in Essen, Germany, with U.S. operations based in Batavia, the business has announced plans to become the third-largest retail grocer in the country by the end of 2022.

Aldi presently operates in 36 states and has more than 1,900 locations. The Chicago Tribune reported the company has 160 stores in the Chicago area, its most in any market.

Aldi's other north suburban locations include Evanston, Skokie, Morton Grove, Vernon Hills and Waukegan.

Last year, Aldi and Kohl's teamed up to pilot a plan to offer groceries at some of its the department stores in an attempt to get customers in the door, the Washington Post reported.

"The goal of our expansion is to reach new shoppers, and we are proud to share it is working," Branneman said in a statement. "We continue to open new stores because people want ALDI in their community. Everything we do is to save people money on the food and products they want most, and we're excited to officially introduce Glenview residents to the best grocery shopping experience."
