GLENVIEW, IL — Summer is quickly approaching, which means local farmers markets will be popping up around Glenview. Since the coronavirus pandemic hit local businesses hard, it's the perfect time to support these local businesses, farmers, and artisans.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the pandemic also brought new challenges to food security and that having access to healthy food options "are an important part of overall physical and mental health" during this time.

The CDC states that outdoor farmers markets are a "lower risk shopping option" that benefits both shoppers and the community. Guidelines include mask-wearing, social distancing, and maintaining good hygiene.

• Northbrook Farmers Market, Meadow Plaza parking lot, Cherry and Meadow, Northbrook. The market returns June 16 and runs from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. every Wednesday through Oct. 13.
• Arlington Heights Farmers Market, 110 W Fremont St., Arlington Heights. The market opened May 15 and will be held from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 16.
• Schaumburg Farmers Market, Trickster Cultural Center Parking Lot, 190 S Roselle Road, Schaumburg. The market returns June 4 and runs from 7 a.m.-1 p.m every Friday through Oct. 29.
• Palatine Farmers Market, Palatine Train Station, Smith and Wood Streets, Palatine. The market opened on May 1 and will be held 7 a.m.-1 p.m. every Saturday through October.
• Elk Grove Farmers Market, 901 Wellington Ave., Elk Grove Village. The market returns after being canceled last season. It runs from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. every Saturday beginning June 5 through mid-October.
